GreatPumpkinIf you haven’t noticed already, Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. There’s something about dressing up plus eating lots of candy that makes me happy. I’m going to scope out all the Halloween events for the month so you will be up to date on all the spooky goings-on. So far Glendale has some great family events on the calendar. The City of Glendale Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department will host three hauntingly fun Halloween events for children of all ages.

The Pacific Community Center Halloween Hoopla will be held on Friday, October 23 from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at 501 South Pacific Ave. Children of all ages will enjoy a cake walk, picture booth, popcorn, prizes, creation station, face painting and carnival games. Tickets for the activities will be available for a nominal fee. All children must be accompanied by an adult. For information, call (818) 548-4098.

The Sparr Heights Community Center, located at 1613 Glencoe Way, will host its annual Freaky Friday event on Friday, October 23 from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Children will enjoy games, crafts and goody bags. Admission is free. For information, call (818) 548-2187.

The Maple Park Costume Contest will be held at the Center, 820 E. Maple St., on Friday, October 30 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for the Scariest, Funniest, Cutest, Most Original and Best Homemade costumes. Check-in for the contest will begin at 4:00 p.m. A maximum number of 30 participants per age category (6 years of age and younger, 7-9 years of age and, 10-15 years of age) will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. All participants will enjoy goody bags and refreshments. Admission is free. For information, call (818) 548-3785.
