master bedThe Mews is an eco-friendly community (all the homes have solar power) consisting of 23 brand new, fee-simple single-family homes located in Atwater Village. The price starts at $599,000.00 for a 3-bedroom, 2.5-bath, 1600 sq. ft. single family home. They’ve been blogging about the construction process for a while, and it looks like the homes are just about finished. Rumor has it that the grand opening will probably be on January 18th.

I love the definition listed for “mews” on the website:

A British term formerly describing a row of stables, usually with carriage houses below and living quarters above, built around a paved yard or court…These mews houses are themselves now regarded as fashionable residences.

More from The Mews:

“Designed by award-winning architects Corsini + Stark, AIA, these “mews houses” capture the sleek style & simplicity found in modern architecture, including open floor plans, high ceilings and walls of glass that open to private outdoor courtyards- transitioning to indoor/ outdoor living space. Each home also has an intimate front, side or back outdoor area perfect for entertaining or just chilling.

“Located on a lot above the rooftops of adjacent houses, Most of our homes will have views from oversize windows of serene sunrises or relaxing sunsets over the hills of neighboring Griffith Park.

Ranging in size from 1500 sq. ft. to 1600 sq. ft. (plus 2 car garages), these homes are nearly 20% larger than most homes in the area, yet will be priced lower than other similar sized homes in Atwater Village and neighboring Silver Lake.”

I checked out some of the pics on the Mews blog and the views look pretty amazing.

“A couple of nice things noticable outside- Beacon Hill is starting to turn a nice shade of green from the rains, and from ground level on the lot, you can see a little bit of the top of the buildings downtown.

The Beacon Hill views are a significant feature on many of the homes. The reason I mention the downtown view is because it gives you an idea of the height this lot has up on its hill. That’s actually the only reason I mention it. You could actually hurt your neck looking for it!”
