e5Franklin Elementary School principal Stephen Williams announced that the Italian government will be awarding Franklin School a minimum grant of $6,000 to go to the Italian immersion program.

Franklin is a priority program for the Italian government since this is the only core program, private or public, in Southern California. The money will be available through December 2009. Franklin will be able to apply for additional grant money in February 2010.

Mr. Williams said, “On May 31, 2009, Special Projects and Intercultural Program Director Joanna Junge, Franklin
Elementary School Teacher Specialist Ana Jones and I attended the Italian Festival at UCLA to solidify our partner- ship.  Hillary Stern, Program Coordinator for Fondazione Italia, introduced us to the consulate general, and many other people involved with the Italian program. More than 450 people attended the outdoor event and everyone was very excited about our endeavor at Franklin.”
